Deck Talk September 22

Fellow Mohicans –

As we come towards the end of our season we are in the process of electing our new board and beginning the budget process.  As a result of some changes with our nominations we are sending a new slate and pushing the annual meeting to coincide with our end of season party on October 6th.

The new slate is provided below.  We have one director role which will be shared by two members who take senior status.   We are very happy to have this representation on the Board.  And we thank Shari Cantor who served last year and unfortunately needs to resign from the Board.  Her role will be filled for the next year by Tracy Robison.

Elected in Year Term Board Member Role
2018 1 Year Rick Hall President
2018 1 Year Josette Skilling Treasurer
2018 1 Year Lisa Owen VP, Pool
2018 1 Year Elizabeth Redisch VP, Buildings
2018 1 Year Michael Kessler VP, Grounds
2018 1 Year Shane Moore VP, Activities
2018 1 Year Elena Naum Secretary
2018 2 Year Vin DeSomma Director
2018 2 Year Katie Blot Director
2018 2 Year Catharina Ford Director, Primary
2018 2 Year Eluned Schweitzer Director, Designated Proxy
2017 2 Year Mark Eisel Director
2017 2 Year Tracey Robison Director
2017 2 Year Dani Johnson Director
Chris Savage Past President

And in keeping with our practice we will push the meeting back by two weeks and hold it at the beginning of our closing party.  This puts the meeting starting at 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 6th at the pool.

It has been a great summer.  We have lots to share, and so I hope you will all be able to attend.

And in the mean time I apologize for the change in dates and the slate.

See you on deck!

Little Falls Village is a non-profit membership organization providing volunteer support to help our older neighbors age in place – to enjoy life and remain independent in their own homes by providing basic services, transportation, and social programs. We encourage neighbors helping neighbors by drawing our volunteers from the community at large and we actively look for ways to strengthen the community by including multi-generational involvement in our activities whenever possible.

We will keep you apprised of all the details on the Mohican website, www.mohicanpool.org.

Until then, see you in the lanes!

Deck Talk – Week of July 22, 2018

Swim Meets:

Mohican hosted the Division H Swim Divisionals and won divisonals!  Congratulations to the swim team for an outstanding season.  Next year they will be swimming in Division D.

The dive team placed third in their division and had a great season with the largest team they’ve ever had.  Congratulations to them!

Raft Night:

Scheduled for this Thursday, July 26 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.  Please watch for the weather reports since we’ve had so much bad weather lately.  Taste of Balkanic food truck is scheduled for that night so plan for a great dinner at the pool!

August Members:

Starting Aug 1 late summer members will be using the pool until closing day October 7.

Rules Reminders:

  • NO GLASS at the pool.  It’s extremely dangerous to have glass on a pool deck.  We have been finding wine and beer bottles in the recycle bin so we know glass is being brought into the pool.  Please stop.
  • Tight fitting plastic pants need to be worn over swim diapers by all children who are not potty trained.   Please dispose of all dirty diapers in the proper trash cans.
  • No bouncing on the diving board.  The guards will remove anyone who bounces on the board.  It’s a dangerous practice and is especially so when someone is in the water below.
  • Clean out the refrigerator after your party.  Please don’t leave any alcohol in the fridge past your party.
  • No eating on the pool deck.  Please use only the designated areas for food.
  • Please update your emergency contact information in your account.

Masters Swimming and Water Polo:

On Sunday, masters swimming is at 8:45 am and water polo starts at 8:00 pm.  Both are open to all newcomers!

Pool Lanes:

As a reminder, we all need to share the lanes in the pool.  If there are two of you in one lap lane, please split the lane to swim.  If there are more than two, please circle swim.

Parties:

Parties are booked online.  If you plan to have more than 10 guests at a time, it’s a party and must get approval before you have it.  Pool management needs to schedule guards and can’t get the proper coverage when members show up with dozens of unexpected guests.

  • If you need to cancel your party, please do so with 24 hours notice.
  • If you want to see if there is availability for your event, visit the calendar – https://www.mohicanpool.org/calendar/

Guest Passes:

We have many guests every day at the pool.  Please login to your account and purchase guest passes BEFORE you come to the pool in order to avoid the lines at the pool.  They never expire and will remain in your account.

Lost and Found:

Please check the lost and found pile for your lost items!  It’s growing and needs to be either picked up or thrown away.

Movie Night:

If there is interest in having a movie night on Tuesdays, we need someone who is willing to run it.  Please contact Josette Skilling at josette@skillingproperties.com

Additional Information:

Please follow us on Twitter @MohicanPool.  Anything listed on the feed will show up on the front page of the website and it’s a great way to get up to date info on closings, parties, raft nights, etc.

Deck Talk – Week of July 15, 2018

Swim Meets:

July 21st – Mohican is hosting swim divisionals!  The pool will open at  noon for members.  Parking will be very tight that day and we are asking all Mohican members to park in the neighborhood and leave the spots in the parking lot for the other teams.  Members may notice that their streets have more cars parked on them than usual.

Rules Reminders:

  • NO GLASS at the pool.  It’s extremely dangerous to have glass on a pool deck.  We have been finding wine and beer bottles in the recycle bin so we know glass is being brought into the pool.  Please stop.
  • Plastic diapers need to be worn by all children who are not potty trained.  We had three incidents this week of fecal matter in the pool which closed the baby pool until it was clear.  Please dispose of all dirty diapers in the proper trash cans.
  • The pool is closed while swim team practices.  The guards need to be able to clean the pool deck, so please wait for your children only under the pavilion by the snack bar.
  • No bouncing on the diving board unless you are at diving practice.  The guards will remove anyone who bounces on the board.  It’s a dangerous practice and is especially so when someone is in the water below.
  • Clean out the refrigerator after your party.  Please don’t leave any alcohol in the fridge past your party.

Welcome to the 2018 Swim Season!

Welcome to another season at Mohican!

This is a special year as we celebrate 60 years at Mohican.  Ever wonder how to  buy Mohican gear?  The swim and dive teams have an online store this year, and it is open to anyone – not just team members.  There is a special t-shirt in honor of the 60th anniversary, and polo shirts, shorts, flannel pants, long sleeve t-shirts and hats are also available.  Check out the online store.  Gear will be shipped directly to your home

Since the end of last season we’ve been hard at working getting the pool ready for another summer.

  • You’ll notice we have Wifi working at the pool.  You’ll see Mohican Guest as the network and you can simply use it with no password required.
  • Security cameras were installed and we have great control over our alarm system.  Any cash we collect will go in a safe, which is bolted to the floor, so we should not have any issues with break-ins this year.  And if they are foolish enough to do so, we’ll capture them on camera!
  • The grounds are looking great and much of last year’s plantings are beginning to come back up.  We’ll have annuals in pots in the next week or so and vines will be planted in pots by the shade structure.
  • We’ve installed a second gas grill at the kitchen area!  This should help to eliminate the waiting when we have a lot of people at the pool and will definitely make it easier to cook for our large Mohican events!
  • The kitchen area was painted and new fans are being installed.  You’ll notice new fans under the pavilion at the front of the pool, which will be very nice to have as that summer heat really picks up.

This year’s social events are on the calendar!

  • Our opening party is scheduled for May 19 at 4:00 pm.  Please bring either a side or dessert to share with everyone and the pool will supply the burgers, hot dogs, water, lemonade and adult beverages (until they run out).
  • We have an adult only party scheduled for June 16.  Save the date!
  • Crabfest will be on July 4th
  • The closing party is scheduled for September 23rd

Any time you’d like to know something about the pool, make sure you visit the website:

https://www.mohicanpool.org

  • The calendar function is especially helpful since you’ll find anything we have scheduled listed there.
  • Our Twitter account will be used to inform everyone when there are happenings or weather delays. You can see that on the home page of the website or your Twitter feed. There is a ticker at the top of the screen of the website which has current info as well.
  • Our hours are prominently displayed right on the home screen and are current.
  • If you’d like to book a party, please be sure to use the online form:

https://www.mohicanpool.org/member-parties/easy-party-request-form/

The form will allow you to book the party and you’ll pay for it by logging in to your account and purchasing your guest passes or renting the upper pavilion:

https://www.mohicanpool.org/membership/payments/

  • We’d also like to remind everyone to log into their account and pay for any guest passes they want to use.  We have a convenient 10 pack you can purchase and we remind you that they don’t expire, so you can safely purchase what you need.  It’s much easier to login to your account and pay for your passes than to try and do it while the front desk is busy checking people in.
  • Swim & Dive registration is open and we have lots of kids signed up. There’s still time to get your swimmers and divers into this fun program so don’t delay.

Spring Cleanup

Happy Spring Mohican Pool members!

With the pool opening scheduled for April 28th – in spite of the snow flying yesterday! – we pulled the cover off so startup for the 2018 season has officially begun.

We have our annual spring cleanup scheduled for Saturday, April 14 from 10am-2pm. The main items we have on the task list include:

  • initial cleaning of the bathhouse
  • initial cleaning of the kitchen/pavilion
  • cleaning deck furniture
  • cleaning the deck (powerwashing)
  • other general cleaning and moving items into position for the season

Our landscaping and grounds work is mostly in order with a professional crew keeping us in order (weeding, debris cleanup, planting, etc.) so the clean-up tasks are significantly fewer than prior years. Last year we made investments in perennials for the planting beds, including the retaining wall, so we will no longer have yearly expenses for annual flowers.

Community school (SSL) credit will be given.

We really encourage everyone to come out and help us make Mohican look great.
