After many weeks of waiting and uncertainty, Mohican will open on a restricted basis this coming Saturday, June 20.

Montgomery County has approved the opening of pools with the start of Phase 2 and just this week gave clearer guidance on the mandatory restrictions that all pools must follow in order to operate. The Board and our management company, Pool Personnel, have developed policies and procedures that conform to this guidance.

This is wonderful news for all of us who are ready to return to the pool. That said, we all need to be realistic about what Mohican will look like this summer. It will not be business as usual – far from it.

The number of people allowed within the pool boundaries will be limited, and we will use an online reservation system to ensure that we adhere to the attendance restrictions dictated by the County. Social distancing will be required on deck and in the pool. The snack bar, playground, baby pool, bocce court and grills are all closed for the foreseeable future.

The safety of everyone at the pool is our highest priority. To allow our lifeguard staff time to familiarize themselves with the new operating procedures required for sanitizing the facilities and maintaining physical distance between non-related groups, we will follow a staggered approach to opening:

  • Lap lane swimming only for the first four days of operations, Saturday June 20 to Tuesday June 23. Hours will be 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM this Saturday and Sunday, and 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM Monday and Tuesday. Sign up for Saturday through Tuesday will open Friday, June 19 at 8:00 AM;
  • General swimming operations in accordance with County guidelines starting on Wednesday, June 24. We will maintain normal pool hours. The reservation system for general swimming will open at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, June 23.

On a final note, these are unprecedented times that will require flexibility on everyone’s part. We should all expect there to be periodic glitches, personal inconveniences, and restrictions that may seem excessive at times. But we are all in this together, from members to the guards, and together we can make the best of it.

On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank you for your patience, suggestions, and words of encouragement over the past weeks and months.

See you at the pool!
